Longyear Peshekee Wood Yard Senior Design

During the spring of 2017, a team of Michigan Tech Senior Design students investigated site planning and design at the Longyear Pesheeke Wood Yard, located between Nestoria and Ishpeming along the Canadian National Railway Railroad.

The team was tasked with investigating premininary civil design options for the wood loading site, including increased capacity, a run-around track along the CN, stormwater and wetlands impact mitigation, along with the addition of a transload and tank storage facility on the site.

The rail team settled on a trio of loading and unloading tracks along with a run-around along the CN to allow for flexible operations. The team also recommended a trackmobile and other improvements to improve railroad transportation from the site.
