Sawyer International Airport

During the 2017 Spring Semester, a Team of Michigan Tech Senior Design students from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering investigated design options for rail and road transportation access to the Sawyer International Airport site, located south of Marquette, MI.

The team was tasked with developing preliminary designs for several individual facets of the overall project:

- Rail Access to a new petroleum facility near the airport complex, capable of berthing unit trains

- Rail and Highway access to a new Warehouse facility

- Investigate ground contamination of Perflourinated Compounds

The team proposed and evaluated many design points for the various projects, including geometric design, soil testing, wetlands and other environmental concerns.
